VIC ZHOU

Vic Zhou (traditional Chinese: 周渝民; pinyin: Zhōu Yúmín) is a Taiwanese actor, singer and commercial model from Taiwan. He is a member of the famous Taiwanese boy band JVKV, also known as F4, and has starred in many Taiwanese dramas. His stage name, 周渝民, literally means “a completely changed person”. It had a variation only in the middle character (from 育 to 渝) from his birth name, 周育民 (pinyin: Zhōu Yùmín), which literally means “a completely nourished or reared person”.
Biography

Vic Zhou was born on June 9 1981, making him the youngest of the F4 members. He is considered the baby of F4, being treated the best by other F4 members. His grandmother gave him the nickname Zàizài "仔仔", meaning "little child", which has become a nickname for him among fans.

Vic dated actress Barbie Hsu, a fellow Taiwanese who is most well-known for her role in the Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, after filming Mars (戰神). Their relationship was highly publicized. They dated for two and a half years, beginning in July 2005 but broke up towards the end of 2007/early 2008. He now lives in an apartment near Barbie Hsu. He is known to have a fascination with cars, treating them very well. When asked if his fellow F4 members could drive his car, he jokingly likened his car to a girlfriend.

Education

* Department of Business Administration,Hsing Wu College
* Department of Industrial Management,China University of Technology Chung Kuo Institute of Technology
* Department of Machinery,National LoTung Industrial Vocational High School
* Luodong Junior High School
* Gong Zeng Elementary School

At first, he tried to finish his degree in machinery technical school (NOT mechanical engineering). But persistent fans prompted him to transfer schools twice. Eventually, he quit school due to his very hectic schedule. Now, he is studying business administration at Hsing Wu College.

Entering the Industry

He was discovered when he accompanied a friend auditioning for a role in Meteor Garden. While waiting for a friend at their auditions, he was huddled in a corner near one of the Meteor Garden staff's office, who said he looked like Huā Zé Lèi and was asked to audition. Meteor Garden was adopted from a Japanese, "Boys Over Flowers" (Japanese romanization: Hana Yori Dango). He was asked to play the role of Huā Zé Lèi, a very silent and sensitive guy who befriends the female protagonist Shān Cài, played by Barbie Hsu. It was in this particular role that many fans acknowledged him and supported him in subsequent roles.
Individual Success as Singer and Actor

Recording career

He was the first F4 member to release his own album when Make a Wish (album) was released in January 2002. It was followed by Remember, I Love You which was released in January 2004. He also sang some solo songs included in F4’s albums like two songs in "Meteor Rain", released in August of 2001 and 2 songs in "Fantasy 4ever", released in December of 2002. His third album, I'm not f4 was released in October of 2007. He has 2 solo songs in F4/JVKV's most recent album "Waiting for You Here" [在这里等你], released in December of 2007. His solo songs also appear in the Original Soundtrack (OST) of "Love Storm" [狂愛龍捲風], "Silence" [深情密碼] and "Wish to See You Again" [這裡發現愛]。 His and F4’s albums were all released under Sony Music Taiwan.

Acting career

Aside from "Meteor Garden" [流星花園], Zhou has appeared in many Taiwanese series such as the four-episode "Meteor Rain" [流星雨], "Poor Prince" [貧窮貴公子], "Meteor Garden II" (sequel of "Meteor Garden I"), "Come To My Place" [来我家吧], and "Love Storm" [狂愛龍捲風]. All of the above mentioned dramas had a lighter tone to them, and are considered to be very "typical" idol drama faire. However, with his next role in "Mars" 【戰神】, co-starring Barbie Hsu, Zhou has publicly acknowledged that this was a turning point for his career. Zhou plays a set of twins, one of which on the surface seems happy-go-lucky but ends up committing suicide, and the other of which struggles with mental illness and post-traumatic stress syndrome. The plotline of the series delves deep into issues not generally explored in idol dramas such as the frailty of the human pysche, violence, goodness and evil, and sexual abuse, just to name a few. In many interviews, Zhou has pinpointed this as the moment where his interest in acting was truly piqued. Since then, Zhou has taken on increasingly more multi-faceted roles deliberately varying them one from another. "Qi Wei Yi" in Silence was an ambitious but lonely business man who's only moment of happiness took place 13 years ago with a mute girl. He finally finds love only to come down with cancer. "Zhi Tian" in "Sweet Relationship," [美味關係]is a cranky but perfectionist chef who spends most of his time yelling at his apprentices. "Xu Le" in "Wish to See You Again" [這裡發現愛] is an awkward but passionate best-selling novelist who innocently falls in love for the first time. Soon he will play a rough and tough policeman in "Ruffian Hero." His next role in Black and White will depart slightly from his typical "idol drama" genre, being his first action series. He will play a policeman. This series is expected to air in the spring of 2009.

Of F4, Zhou has been slower to get into the movie making business, but as of January 2008, his first movie "Linger" [蝴蝶飛]/ Hu Die Fei was released. Mid-summer 2008, Zhou will be coming out with his second movie, "Tea Fight."

About Rainie

She started acting when she was 14-years-old, appearing in movies and commercials in Hong Kong. At 15, she auditioned for a girl band to be launched by BMG Records called "4 in Love" and passed with flying colors. From then on, she was called "Rainie" to fit in with the weather-based named girls of the group; she was originally called Lily in the industry. She moved to Taiwan and pursued her acting career as she lived with her co-band members under one roof. She starred in various dramas starting with the mega blockbuster Meteor Garden where she played a supporting, yet pivotal role as the cute Xiao You (Hana Yori Dango’s "Yuki" Chinese counterpart). The rest is history as she proceeded on to be a much-loved leading lady by respectable men and starred in more bankable dramas. Unfortunately, in late 2002, 4 in Love had to disband. Windie and Sunnie proceeded with their studies and Cloudie pursued becoming a stewardess. Rainie was left in the E-circle. Continuing as a solo artist, she reached new heights and levels with a different job- as a host. She discovered her hosting skills with the hosting jobs she did left and right. She became a host without disrupting her acting career where she also received many projects. She continued singing by performing on the OSTs of her dramas. 2005 was a pivotal year for Rainie. Her leading TV series "Devil Beside You" (恶魔在身边) with Mike He brought her song Ai Mei absolute success. She holds the record as the first Chinese newcomer to achieve platinum status with her debut album My Intuition Ai Mei.

Career

Yang began her career as a member of the all-girl singing group 4 in Love, where she was given the stage name of Rainie. The group's popularity in the music industry was mediocre and they achieved limited success. After the group disbanded, Yang continued to pursue a career in the entertainment industry as a TV host, hosting shows such as the "Guess Guess Guess" variety show. After playing supporting roles in several dramas (including the mega hit Meteor Garden), she landed the lead role (as Qi Yue) in the CTV drama Devil Beside You opposite Mike He. Devil Beside You proved to be very popular, allowing Rainie's career to take off. The same year, she released her debut album, My Intuition, featuring her hit songs "Ai Mei" and "Li Xiang Qing Ren", which were both from Devil Beside You. My Intuition made Chinese entertainment history as the only debut album to reach platinum status, selling 1.5 million copies in South-East Asia.

In 2006, she released her follow-up album, Meeting Love, which also sold very well. On September 7, 2007, she released My Other Self (otherwise known as Anywhere Door). It features "Que Yang" and "Wan Mei Bi Li," which also stars her Devil Beside You co-stars Mike He and Kingone Wang. Hoping to portray herself as a "serious" actress, Yang co-starred in the arthouse and lesbian-related film Spider Lilies alongside Isabella Leong. However, after co-starring in Spider Lilies, Yang returned to her previous cute image by becoming the lead actress in the drama Why Why Love.

On January 8, 2007, Yang recorded her last "Guess Guess Guess" show due to her busy schedule and focus on her music career.[citation needed] On April 23, 2008, while filming the idol drama "Miss No Good" in Sanchih, Yang fell heavily from the stairs, and was sent to Mackay Memorial Hospital. The stairs were located between the third floor, where the dressing room was located, and the first floor, where the film set was located. The crew originally thought the falling object was a light frame, but upon hearing a groan, they realized it was her. After an X-ray examination, doctors diagnosed Yang's injury as a spinal contusion. After leaving the hospital, producer Angie Chai took Yang to a Chinese massage therapist.

She will appear next in GTV's Superstar Express which stars herself, Jiro Wang of Fahrenheit, and George Hu.

[edit] Controversy

In 2003, Yang mistook the eight-year Second Sino-Japanese War as having been eleven years in length during a television program. After learning the actual length of the war, she responded with "Only eight years?" Upon knowing the Japanese army murdered 40,000 people in Nanjing, China, she responded by saying "only 40,000?" This response generated anger in China, leading to the boycotting of Hunan Satellite Television's airing of Devil Beside You, in which she acted. Upon learning of the widespread boycott, Hunan TV replaced the show's airtime with Green Forest, My Home.[1]

In 2006, Yang was interviewing a Japanese mixed guest, and said "I must have been a Japanese in my past life! Walking in Kimono feels so elegant." She then says "We must learn everything Japanese!"

In January of 2007, Yang was invited to do a commercial for McDonald's. Upon airing, there was a lot of protest from China. This forced McDonald's to delete all the scenes containing Yang in the commercial.

In March 29, 2007, Yang was in Singapore promoting and said she despised Mainland Chinese people because they have very low morals.

On April 3, 2007, Yang wrote a public apology letter to her fans saying "I mis-spoke four years ago, it was understandable because I was only 18 years old, plus I didn't have a lot of education. I did not have a good understanding of history, so this caused me to mis-speak. I hope people can forgive me, the war was not as long and as horrible as I thought, this is why I answered only 40,000 people and was surprised it was only 8 years. I will continue to study history, and improve my skills in hosting. Thank you."[citation needed]

Ariel Lin - Queen of the idol series

Ariel Lin’s looks may not be graded as beautiful, so everyone is describing her as [cute], [has quality]; but because she really has this Taiwan’s local girl style which eventually makes her even more popular. Actually Ariel is a good representative for Taiwanese girls. Dreaming their normal self would one day meet a smart and wealthy boyfriend, winning all the envies from the public. Ariel Lin being [love till the end] by the good looking guys: Joe Cheng, Mike He and Wu Zun, hasn’t been involved in a relationship for quite a while now maybe you will ask her “Aren’t you dating Joe Cheng?” This [Taiwan’s Queen of the Idol series] will personally tell you the truth deep from her heart.

Having just celebrated her 25th birthday on October 29th, now she is already in HengDian filming the new generation of HuangRong. Even though being call as [The chubbiest HuangRong ever] it did not put her down at all. She purposely avoids watching Barbara Yung and Athena Chu’s versions of HuangRong and based on her own version of HuangRong straightly from the novel and scripts. Before she departs to HengDian, was able to have an interview session with her. So which one is harder? Being HuangRong or (XiangQin) being ZhiShu’s (Joe Cheng) wife or being the real life Ariel?

In the set, Ariel looks a bit quiet. She is also busy changing her makeup and clothes. But she is a very polite girl, she would sits very still and listen to her questions during the interview, always holding her smiles. When asked [Are there any great pressure having to act as HuangRong? Because a lot of artiest had already played it and not everyone had been succeeded. Why she wanted to try it out?]

Portraying a new version of HuangRong
Ariel nodded her head and said: [Pressure is high but being an actor would be wanted to face new challenge, especially characters that would be the talk of the town. Since the story can be remake throughout the centuries, it means that the character can be played by anyone. I’ve already acted in tv series for 6 years, it’s time to give myself a bigger challenge. Used the strength of 200 marks to act as HuangRong, hope that people who haven’t watched “the older version of HuangRong” will be able to accept me.]

What Ariel said is true. During the 80s is Barbara Yung, 90s is Athena Chu, 2000 is Zhou Xun and 2007 will be Ariel’s turn. New generation viewers may not have seen the previous version of , so she could act out based on how she sees the new generation of HuangRong. [To avoid having other people’s shadows, I haven’t watched any previous versions of ; but from my memory, the most impressive HuangRong is Barbara Yung. She is HuangRong’s reincarnation.
Girl next door image mesmerizing boys and girl viewers

Looking at Ariel’s info, filming tv series the year 2000. Didn’t immediately shot into fame but she’s getting more and more popular as she keeps on filming series from series. She’s been filming12 series in just 5 years. That’s why when (we) asked Taiwan Medias how do they describe Ariel Lin, they will tell you [She’s Taiwan’s Queen of the Idol Series]. At first, (I) was a bit surprised; Ariel is not a beauty and doesn’t make people feel that she’s gorgeous. Why would she be [Queen]? Their answers would be: [It’s because she’s like Taiwan’s girl next door type. A lot of prince charming is falling for [beautiful enough to have her own perspective] type. This is also the deepest desire of all the girls; it sorts of like making the other girls feels like they could actually relate themselves to Ariel. While guys also love this kind of girls who have a rocky path in their life cause then it will be a good opportunity to let the guys satisfy their own desire of protecting the girls. Anyway Ariel is the new generation
